There is a standard that the teachers have to implement in their classes. That standard is to maintain that class at a low voice level. That is why they are always telling the students to maintain a voice level 0. 

I think that it’s okay but to a certain extent. I think that it’s helpful when we’re working because it helps us concentrate but there is a limit of how quiet a class should be and for how long it should be sustained that way. Voice levels are a really important factor to the environment of a classroom. There could be voice level 0 and voice level 1 or 2 during a class. In that class it won’t be awkward nor full of tension. The students will feel comfortable being in that class. But when there is absolute voice level 0 enforced and strictly just that. Or speaking only whenever the teacher says so creates this tension and uncomfortable setting that makes it an unpleasant environment to be in. 

Wendy Quijada argues,”Being in a class that is very quiet and strict makes me not want to go to the class. It makes me not look forward to that class.” 

Others think otherwise and don’t really mind having a classroom environment like that.

“To be honest I don’t mind being in a class with absolute silence,”stated Helen Mendez. “It helps me concentrate and since I am focused on work I don’t realize the “tension” that is going on in that classroom.” 

It really depends on one’s preference of how they work but I feel like it’s not fair that mostly everyone feels uncomfortable being in that classroom. I think that as students we shouldn’t be thinking about how we are dreading going to that class because of the strict rules that we have to follow which create an environment that makes us have these types of thoughts.
